英文也是民族的大熔爐。我的意思是說，英文會有今日之豐盛，是因為它兼容並蓄了世界上不少民族的語文。
例如：A man without a smiling face must not open a shop.不正是由中文「人無笑臉不開店」變來的？再如：Bees that have honey in their mouths have stings in their tails.不正是由中文「口蜜腹劍」變來的？又如：If you do not enter tiger’s den, you cannot get his cubs.不也正是由中文「不入虎穴，焉得虎子」變來的？
像這種由中文演變而來的英文諺語（或成語）還真不少。例如：Preserve the old, but know the new.不正是由中文「溫故而知新」變來的？再如：Riches adorn the dwelling ; virtue adorns the person.不正是中文「富潤屋；德潤身」變來的？又如：There are pictures in poems and poems in pictures.不也正是由中文「詩中有畫，畫中有詩」變來的？
正因為這些英文諺語（或成語）是由中文變來的，所以我覺得比較好記。不知你是否也有同感？
